All is not quite as it seems in upcoming angling sim About Fishing, which creator The Water Museum says has been “made out of love for Shenmue and SEGA Bass Fishing”. We can certainly see the Dreamcast vibes.
The trailer starts out light-hearted enough, as two polygonal characters share a portion of curly fries next to a misty lake. But it’s not long before the serenity is exchanged for unease.
The PS Store page for the game says “every cast is a chance to uncover something unexpected”

It adds:
“The fish you catch become your guides, helping you reach fragments of a long-forgotten mystery hidden beneath the surface. You can lose yourself in the calm of fishing or follow the clues the water offers.”
While it’s not really clear from the trailer, it sounds like there’ll be a sandbox aspect to the game, where NPCs go about their business depending on the time of day.
The blurb continues:
“Each person you meet carries their own memories and small joys. Their lives unfold around you, drawing you closer to the peace of a place that slowly begins to feel like home.”
This looks fascinating to us – we can certainly see the Shenmue and SEGA Bass Fishing influences in this, but also series like Forbidden Siren and Silent Hill as well.
There’s no release date attached to the project, but you can wishlist it now.

Sega bass fishing on the Dreamcast back in the day was so much fun especially with the rod controller 😁
Love the look of this.
"Silent gill" made me chuckle, nice one.
I love the aesthetic of this and I also have a soft spot for games that are secretly more than they let on. Not so secret in this case given the trailer's vibe, but you get what I mean.
This game looks reel good
Count me in. This has PS2 level of uniqueness.
Was my dude in jail for fishing without a license?
WTF is this? I can't tell if I'm intrigued or put off. Which I love. Something totally different.
This right up my street. Like Shenmue meets Dredge
I’m the odd one out here.. love fishing games and creepy games.. but can’t get past the dated look.. I know it’s the esthetic they intended but it’s 2025/2026 and at 36 my brain won’t let me accept these graphics regardless of gameplay..
BUT it does look intriguing and I hope those who aren’t dumb like me will enjoy it.. I’ve just been spoiled over the years I guess
